It is hard to believe that the SW Austin Arveda Alzheimer's Family Care has been open and assisting residents for a year now.  The first residents moved in on March 1, 2009.  We have shared so many happy and touching moments with the residents and their families over the past year.  It is such a joy to know we are doing our best to "take very special care of very special people".  It truely is an honor.

We are hosting an open house to celebrate the one year anniversary of the opening of the community.   We hope you can join us!

When:  March 25, 2010

Time:   5:00pm - 8:00pm

Austin had a snow day yesterday, which occurs very infrequently.  There was quite an accumilation of the snow in the Arveda backyard so the staff and residents took full advantage of the event and they built "Arvey the Snowman".   Arvey survived the entire day and many of the residents would look at him and laugh.  One resident said "you've got to be kidding me" when he saw all the snow falling.  Poor Arvey disentigrated into a pool of mush by this morning, but he sure was fun to look at while he lasted.

Activity is very important for the Residents of Arveda.  Appropriate, stimulating, activities can help reduce anxieties, improve sleep, improve appetite, improve physical strength, and bring a sense of self worth to the person with Alzheimer's or related dementia.  Arveda continually fosters an environment that encourages the residents to actively participate in their daily lives and to have increased socialization.
